FANUC Controller & Teach Pendant Compatibility Checks
Published by Robots Trading Inc. · Updated
Buy a replacement pendant against the exact controller configuration and complete part number. R-J3iB, R-30iA, R-30iB, and R-30iB Plus are controller-family identifiers, not a guarantee that a particular pendant or cable will fit your system.
What the controller generation tells you
Start with the cabinet nameplate, then record the software version and the existing pendant and cable identifiers. Keep the original robot and controller records together. If the cabinet was replaced, the robot arm nameplate alone will not describe the system you have.
FANUC describes the R-30iB Plus as using R-30iB-based hardware architecture with an updated main board, and describes an enhanced iPendant and iHMI interface. That product information does not establish that an arbitrary older pendant is interchangeable. See the FANUC R-30iB Plus product sheet and controller overview.
Compatibility checklist
| Identify | Request | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Controller | Full cabinet model, serial number, and nameplate photo | A robot-arm model does not identify the installed controller. |
| Teach pendant | Complete part number, suffix/revision, and front/rear photos | Similar housings or family names do not prove interchangeability. |
| Cable and connections | Cable part number, connector photos, and included adapters | Confirm the complete assembly; a pendant may be sold without its cable. |
| Software | Controller software version, application, and installed options | Have the proposed replacement checked against the actual system configuration. |
| Condition | Known faults and the system it was removed from | A pendant pulled from a running cell is the easiest to match and trust. |
This is a purchasing checklist, not a certified interchangeability table. Obtain confirmation from FANUC or a qualified integrator for the exact combination before ordering a replacement.
Compare the complete offer
Ask whether the quoted item includes the cable, mounting accessories, and any required adapters. Keep condition evidence separate from compatibility evidence: a working pendant may still be unsuitable for your controller. Confirm the currency and shipping charges before placing an order.
If you are selling surplus controllers or pendants, send clear label photographs and describe the system they came from, known faults, and which components remain together. Complete sets sell faster than loose parts.
